Popular Golf Courses in Scotland

Popular in Scotland

Braemar Golf Club

Braemar Golf Course, founded in 1902, nestling amongst the Grampian Mountains, 1200 feet above sea level and is, surprisingly, mostly flat and offers a real test to golfers and a real treat to the eyes as you marvel at the majesty of the Grampian Mountains surrounding the course.

Balmoral Castle

Talking of majesty, a hidden treat is the nine-hole course in the grounds of Balmoral Castle, the summer retreat for the Queen, open to the public in May, June and July. A round of golf followed by a wander round the castle and a snack in the castle tearoom, is a tasty day out. The golfing connoisseur is well catered for with two of the oldest golf courses in the world on offer in this region.

Cruden Bay Golf Club

Cruden Bay Golf Club (1899) has possibly the most wonderful links course you could ever play on laid out by Old Tom Morris difficult but fair, in my opinion. It also has a most delightful small course nestling below the well-appointed clubhouse sitting up on the hill with panoramic views over the course.

Royal Aberdeen Golf Club

Royal Aberdeen Golf Club (1780) with the current course dating from 1815, is an also 'must play'. Play this to your handicap and you are entitled to a relax with a wee whisky in their beautiful clubhouse, oozing tradition. The Scottish Open recently played on this course presented a test for the international professionals against a real Scottish backdrop when viewed on television across the world.

Trump International Links Course

More recently we have had the Trump International Links Course open for play. A big test to all who venture on - just remember to have a good supply of golf balls as you leave the first tee!
